What We're About!

For starters I want to emphasize that you do not have to be gay, bi, transgender, etc. to be a part of this club!

We are a group of people gathering to discuss and promote equality and discourage the derogatory assumptions about homosexuality, bisexuality, and transgender.

What would we do?

Open discussion, guest speakers, volunteering, events, rallies, writing, you name it.

What would we discuss?

I want an "open discussion" type forum at our meetings because I want the members to have a safe place to talk about what's going on in their lives; the good, the bad, and the ugly! Just somewhere completely free to cut loose and be yourself!

Guest speakers?

I want to get people from outside the school to come in and share their story with us. (We may also have weeks where we will spotlight one of our own members, upon request.) Artists, Writers, Community Leaders, anyone I can get a hold of. (This may be difficult at first, but we'll get them in!)

*Our second meeting I will be inviting a personal friend to come speak.

Events?

We definitely need fun events! We may ti-dye shirts at our second meeting, have outings like ice skating, etc. One larger event I think would be really fun (if we could get it approved) is a drag fashion show. This would involve fashion majors to work with drag kings and queens, students not majoring in fashion can help plan and decorate the event. I also had a plan last year for an LGBT pumpkin carving where the proceeds get donated. Any ideas are appreciated!

Volunteering?

I would like the club to participate in all different types of volunteer work. It is something I am passionate about, and hope the members will be too. I would like to volunteer in various ways (homeless shelters, animal shelters, ActionAIDS, EqualityPennsylvania, etc.) and hold events with the purpose of donating proceeds to important causes. (ActionAids, EqualityPennsylvania, etc.)

Politics?

I am very involved in politics and when it comes down to it I think everyone should be, at least a little bit. This past year two more states have voted yes on gay marriage, but its only 9 out of 50. (Connecticut, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Washington, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.) Without awareness and support of the movement, it will never come to fruition.

Club "Government"?

So like I said I am not the most organized person, or the best with time management. I definitely need someone, or a couple people to help keep the club on track. I may be starting the club but its everyone's club, not just mine. Even if you don't want to help with the responsibility of brainstorming and scheduling activities, your input is valued!

Guest Speaker-UPDATED AGAIN*!

Sorry about the previous cancellation, our speaker had difficulties getting here that day. So we are trying again this sunday, march 17th in the boardroom @ 4pm-8pm. She will not be speaking for 4 hours but that is how long we have the room! After we will most likely be watching The Walking Dead together again, we do this every Sunday if anyone else is interested in joining us!

I also picked up some supplies to make new posters! I will bring that to the meeting as well as some drinks/snacks. PLEASE BRING SUPPLIES AS WELL! We need markers/paint markers/glitter/etc. anything you want to use to make posters. The original posters are out dated so I feel we should make some new ones, I really want to grab the attention of some more students and build a large foundation for our club.

Also I want to talk about planning our first event. Although I am very passionate about the fashion drag-show idea I think I want to wait until next semester so that we have more time to plan and open it to the public. I want to get actual drag-queens and maybe some friends to join in on the festivity and have guests outside the school join us!

Can't wait to see you all this Sunday! Hope you all enjoyed your spring break!
